Workshop
1 hr 30 mins
As design researchers, we all come to our work with biases shaped by our many identities, experiences, and points of view. This workshop will dispel the persistent myth that researchers are neutral parties and will introduce mindsets and practices for bias mitigation.
Thursday, 9 November - 17:30-19:00 GMT, 12:30-14:00 EST, 9:30-11:00 PST
Registration opens: 9 October
RegisterAre you a design researcher eager to put your equity values into practice but aren’t sure where to start? Join us for this introductory workshop on bias mitigation approaches, a session grounded in joy and care, and specifically designed for beginner and intermediate researchers who are committed to growing in their equity practice. We will consider how bias can show up in our work as design researchers; introduce tools for recognizing and reflecting on individual positionality in relation to the research topic; explore ways teams can collaboratively air out and investigate assumptions; and discuss what it means to consider history and context of the research topic from multiple perspectives.
