Workshop
1 hr 30 mins
‘Inclusive’ language, terminology and processes are now widely used and recognised as important in the design and research field, but to what extent do we understand what this means and how it plays out on a human level? How might we reconnect with the idea that inclusion and safety are feelings as well as formalities or approaches? This workshop will explore the language of ‘inclusion’, and create space to reconnect with and reflect on the human experience of sharing, learning, designing and collaborating.
Monday, 6 November - 19:00-20:30 GMT, 14:00-15:30 EST, 11:00-12:30 PST
Registration opens: 9 October
RegisterThe workshop aims to open up discussion around inclusion and language, recognising there is a huge difference between labelling a design space/process as ‘inclusive’ and 'safe', and it actually being so. Attendees will be taken on a reflective journey throughout the session.

Sheetal is a learning design consultant and practitioner in the social impact sector, specialising in grassroots community development, engagement and collaboration. She is particularly interested in relationship-building as a core foundation for this work - she began her career in education and youth work, which is where her love for people development, connection and nurturing others grew. Sheetal is passionate about making the social impact space more inclusive and equitable, and has created and led a number of initiatives around this throughout her career.
She also co-founded South Asian Sisters Speak (SASS), a community platform created as a safe space for South Asian women to connect, learn and share, and although no longer part of the team she continues to champion the voices of South Asian women and women of colour in wider society. Sheetal is also a current board member for both Spark & Co and Future Leaders Mentoring.
